written on the body

Shiny Yoga directed me to this beautiful blog - Superhero Journal - where a group of women recently held a weekend retreat where one of the activities was having words painted on you that you most needed to hear.

Whatever thoughts we have about ourselves to tend to manifest in our bodies and the way we carry ourselves. I understand more and more why people choose to have tattoos - they have something meaningful to them put somewhere that they can see and get strength from when they need it.

What words would you choose? And where on the body?

Mine would be stay true on my inner left wrist and keep going on my inner right wrist.

  1. This is such a beautiful idea and so incredibly touching. Thank you for sharing it. :)

I'm not sure what would I choose. Ideally, I'd want find a painter who had the gift of knowing what it is that a person needed to hear most. And then said it, then painted it, and then said it again.

  2. Very cool! Mine would say: "Live what you love" and, just like skinny latte, I'd want it on my wrist. :)

...I can't take credit for coming up with that one. I read it awhile back on one of the blogs I follow. It just really spoke to me. You can check out the blog here:

  7. I have always wanted to get "Toujours Devant" tattooed somewhere on my body. The thing that is holding me back is that I dont know where to put it! I want this for a couple of reasons - I am from a Scottish family and it's our motto, but also it means "Always Ahead" which is kind of a message to me to remind me to always do my best.
    I love your ideas too!

  9. Mine would be "Good things come to those who smile" on the middle of the inside of my left upper arm.

But I think that the quote on the second picture would be just fine too.

  12. Wow I love this post!

    I think mine would say...
The strength of a woman is shown in everything she does.

  13. Hmm, I think mine would be 'no coward soul is mine...', probably on the inner wrist/forearm area. It's a line from an Emily Bronte poem which I first encountered on a toilet door of all places, but it has really stuck with me and I find myself repeating that first line when I need to spur myself on..,

Love you Philly! Email me! xx

  14. Hey Phil, just checking in to see if you're OK - it's been kinda quiet here. I hope it's because you're busy with life away from the keyboard, and in a happy place. If not, then have a HUGE HUG!
