Today, my friend opened her shop in Melbourne. If you're in the neighbourhood, pop over to Orlando and Ivy and tell her I sent you.
My friend always talked about opening a shop one day. What a surreal but thrilling moment it must have been for her to unlock the doors for the first day of trade this morning. A passing thread in a conversation over red wine and Shanghai dumplings one late night a few years ago is now an art-filled cave of wonders with a sign on the door. There's journals, art works, jewellery, creative tools, books, independent magazines.....if you want something unique and made with love, this is the place to go. She saw a gap in the market and she filled it. I am so proud of her.
She is living proof that you really can do anything you want. If, I add, you're not afraid of a bit of hard work. I admire her so much for how she pursues her goals. Her dreams are never just dreams. She stops at nothing - when something catches her alight, she sees it through, she makes it happen. She is fearless. She follows her heart always. And that is one enormous heart, that wants to support all the artists out there who are doing something different, to give them a voice and a platform for their work. To say she inspires me seems feeble - inspiring just doesn't cut it. The woman doesn't know the meaning of the word "can't". While so many of us have a vision, she backs it up with action.
She deserves every success in the world. If her first day is anything to go by, she's on her way!
