phil likes dresses

Mission: to go and buy new running shoes.

Reality: Phil buys new dress.

What do you think? I love it! Absolutely gorgeous to wear in this weather.

You all know how I like to buy dresses! Maxi dresses are all the rage at the moment, and I saw this one about a month ago and it was two weeks until pay day and I couldn't really afford it! Today, on our way to the park, Tom and I popped in to House of Fraser for a brief air-conditioned break and I found the dress again - only one left, and in my size! Providence!!

I kept telling myself I had to get new running shoes next - but I blame the weather for my brief lapse in priorities! It's not really running weather -it's maxi dress and cocktail weather!

After a few hours lounging in the sun in the park with books (me) and sketch pad (Tom) we came home and had Pimm's:

Whenever I taste Pimm's it makes me think of summer here. It's so fruity and delicious. Note to self: Pimm's is not water. Moderation!!

This makes one giant 1.5 litre jug.

Lots of ice
1 litre bottle lemonade or ginger beer
Chopped fruit - I like strawberries and apple
About 8 thin slices cucumber
Fresh mint
About 250ml Pimm's (about 1/4 of a 1 litre bottle)

Put ice in the jug. Add fruit, cucumber, mint and Pimm's. Top with lemonade or ginger beer and stir well with a wooden spoon - I always make it with ginger beer because I think it gives it a lovely spicy kick. Purists would have me shot. But try it and see if you like it!

This is perfect for a summer party! Or makes two people very, very merry!

What did you get up to this weekend my friends? Anything exciting? We had a lovely jaunt around Hampstead yesterday, collected our tickets for our holiday, did some power vinyasa yoga (well, that was me), watched some French movies in an attempt to surround ourselves with the language and hence not completely embarrass ourselves this week (!!), and have got very brown from sitting in the gorgeous, glorious sun. The winters here are so bitter, it makes you so grateful for the sun and the heat....

We're also organising our wedding reception and are arranging to try a canape menu at our fingers-crossed-it's-what-we-want venue. Everything is starting to get sorted and we're really excited. Now I just need a......dress!!

  1. Great new dress. I'm a big fan of dresses. I find them much more me than jeans!

I had a quiet weekend, resting and recovering and hunting down documents for Japan immigrantion :)

  2. What a beautiful dress, you look gorgeous! Yay for nice weather, it has been 1C here the last two mornings, frosty and pretty but damn cold :)

  3. Thank you both!

Kathryn, I'm not liking jeans much at the moment either - I've found that I've worn holes into the bottoms of the legs because they hang too low and that makes me feel like a scruff!

And yay for Japan immigration, how exciting :D

Laura, I don't envy you with cold weather!! I don't know how long this lovely heat will last, the weather here is notorious for swiftly changing back to cold, rain, grey, etc. so I'm making the most of it!!

  4. Oh I LOVE this time of the year in London, all the spring blossoms and a bit of warmth in the air, and the days starting to get longer. And the fact that everyone goes out and enjoys it!
Love the dress, I recall you had the same dilemma last time you went looking for running shoes.
We spent the weekend moving into our new house in Perth. After 5 years, and an active 22 month old, our sydney pad was a bit small. All our old furniture fits in about 1/4 of the house, so trying to find our style and get everything sorted in the way we want. Trying to get healthy, so have been sorting out Kitchen (domestic goddess style) and checking out all the yoga places and triathlon clubs around to get my arse moving...
Oh, and playing with my quickly-developing son who is becoming a real little man!
So just a normal weekend around here.

  5. Oh Dani, you are absolutely right! Didn't I do a poll or something? Dress or shoes! Your memory is better than mine :) and yes I forgot to mention the added bonus of good weather here is that people are happy and in a good mood! I was wondering if you had moved to perth yet. Hope you have fun settling in to your new house and neighbourhood :) x

  9. You look absolutely amazing in that dress Phil. I think you made the right decision - new runners can wait! I'll have to try that recipe for Pimms - it sounds delicious.

  10. Lovely dress Phil. Glad to hear the weather held strong through the weekend. BTW what is Pimm's I know it is alcohol but what kind. It was wonderful to see you again and to meet your guy. Keep well. Good luck finding your dress.

  11. Phil you look divine! I'll say it again, Blake Lively might well be your twin.
The sun is trying to show itself here in Seattle with limited success - we got enough on the weekend to have beer-o'clock in the sunshine :)
