how to make a skinny latte

One of the fun things about having a blog is seeing your audience grow, and also finding out how they discovered you.  How it normally goes is "oh I was on this blog, and then I clicked on one link, and then another, and then somehow I landed on yours....and the rest is history!"

Sometimes I have a look at the key word searches and see what people have typed into search engines and have somehow ended up here at Skinny Latte Strikes Back.  Some have been rather interesting ("back to the future cap" and, after Friday's post, pole dancing!) but one that kept recurring recently was how to make a skinny latte.

It dawned on me.....I didn't actually know!  So I thought why not give people what they came here for, and learn something myself at the same time? :)

So, I present to you.....the first episode of Skinny Latte TV, how to make a skinny latte!

This is my friend Bill Lark, the Godfather of Australian whisky and trained barista, giving me the low down on the finer points of latte making.  I hope you enjoy having a watch, it was lots of fun to shoot, and I learned a lot!

I am yet to upgrade to a coffee machine for my home coffee drinking (I still use a french press) but now I have the know-how to do it cafe style, who knows!!

Do you have a coffee machine at home?  Do you make your lattes cafe style?  :)

  1. Oh I couldn't live without my coffee machine. Of course, not living near a cafe makes it essential.

  2. Love it! :) I have one of those 'lazy' pod machines but I love the coffee it makes... I would be lost without my coffee!

  3. I hope all Skinny Latte TV episodes are as good and as informative as this one.

Great work Phil. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Good idea! I make chai tea lattes- I make the tea (only a small bit in the bottom of the cup), heat the milk, add the milk and then froth up :) Yum. I like seeing the search results too- I get lots about people not being able to run eg "I can't even run a mile" and I wish I knew who they were so I could say to them " I could not even run for 1 minute! You can do it!"

  5. Even though I live in the coffee capital of the world, and have loads of places to buy the perfect coffee, I Love, love, love my coffee machine and have already stashed away the money for my next one when this one goes to coffee machine heaven! My family knows, it's an essential item in my home, something I won't live without.

  7. Hey Phil - I love this clip. It makes me homesick for good coffee and Aussie accents :) Just wondering what your recommendations are for the best coffee in old London town? I'm always on the look out for good coffee in the UK. Phillippa xx

  8. I really enjoyed this! I'm a skinny (or 'trim' in Kiwi!) latte fanatic and it was neat to see the process with instructions! Great idea :D

  9. Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

Phillippa, one of the nicest coffees I've had in London is at an Aussie run place called Lantana, near Goodge Street: http://lantanacafe.co.uk/

Monmouth is also excellent - Borough Market and Seven Dials.

And of the chains, when emergency caffeine is required, Pret is probably the most reliable :)

  10. Wow Phil! That was an awesome clip. You picked up coffee making just like that!!! Very impressive. Now.......I just have to impose my newly snobby coffee ways again to my boss! It made me feel like a coffee.......I make them at work and usually have skinny flat whites!

  11. I would like to get a coffee from this guy!

Also... did your blog get hacked or something? I had a whole bunch of posts show up from you in Google Reader about office fitouts and other strange, non-Phil topics.

  12. Hi Amy, no, there doesn't seem to be any strange non Phil activity from my end - or in my Google reader. Not sure what's happened for you there, but please let me know if you notice anything else. Thanks!

  13. Thanks Phil! I will give Lantana a go. Monmouth is delicious, especially after a wander around the markets. :)

  15. I finally figured out what the weird posts that showed up were... it was your original skinny latte girl blog (clearly I don't ever clean out my Google Reader feeds!)!

  16. Skinny lattes are pretty delicious and so versatile too. You can add so many things to them like vanilla or hazelnut syrups which just make them even more delicious. Using sugar-free syrups keeps things 'skinny' too :)
