hungry thursday, mega edition: avocado, banana and lime smoothie
I was overwhelmed with yearning for a clean, green, refreshing breakfast this morning, despite the relentless rain outside!
I saw this recipe on Crazy Sexy Life a little while ago and thought seeing I had most of the ingredients I would give it a try. I had to modify it slightly for my tastes but I appreciate that the point is that it isn't supposed to taste like a milkshake! I wouldn't say I need everything to be sweet but I do notice when things aren't....it was probably the overly generous squeeze of lime that initially made this a bit tart for me but as I drank it the clean, pure flavour of it really grew on me. If I had had any coconut milk handy I would have added that rather than filtered water, just for some added creaminess. But overall this smoothie gave me exactly what I was after - some pure, super power nourishment to get me through a morning of studying and writing!
Avocado, banana and lime smoothie
Based on Creamy Green Smoothie at Crazy Sexy Life
Makes 1 breakfast
1 cup filtered water or coconut milk (or half and half!)
Handful of ice
Handful of baby spinach or other greens (washed first)
1 small ripe avocado
1 large frozen banana
The juice of 1/2 a small lime (I would only add a squeeze to start with and taste as you go, it can be quite tart!)
Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Process until it is smooth and brilliant green colour!
Taste and add more lime if you want it tarter, some more banana if you want it sweeter.
Pour into a glass and enjoy!
I love smoothies to drink - especially for a breakfast on the go when you need a spare hand for other things! - but I think my absolute favourite way to eat them is in a bowl with muesli/granola/dried fruit/nuts/seeds on top.
How do you like your smoothies?
