My race number arrived in the mail today so I guess there's no backing out now!
So far this is the plan for the rest of the week:
Wednesday: 5 x 15 mins running in progression/2 minutes walking
Thursday: Rest (I will be out for the day but I will wear comfortable shoes when walking, not my high heeled boots!) and yoga
Friday: Long run (warm up, stretches, then 8 x 1km slow/1km medium)
Saturday: Couch potato (and yoga) + a very early night!
Sunday: Race
Having had a few treats earlier this week, I'm trying to get back on the straight and narrow this week with yoghurt and Nakd bars fulfilling the majority of my sweet cravings :)
| Stash from the goody bag I got at the Nakd new flavour launch last night |
I'm also going to fuel a lot better for Sunday than I did for Beauty and The Beast. My meal the night before will be either baked potatoes or pasta....but I have been having gluten free pasta rather than the regular stuff since my big gluten free challenge in August. So I think what I will do is have gluten free pasta on Thursday night before my long run Friday and see if that works in terms of fuel. If not, baked potatoes on Saturday it is!
Breakfast on Sunday will be bagels rather than toast, and I'll also have a banana (I WILL eat it this time!) and other snacks which I'll eat in the car on the way to Nottingham. With sports beans in my arm wallet and a bottle of Lucozade handy, I will be all powered up this time!
I'm also going to watch Chariots of Fire on Saturday night (assuming it arrives by then). I normally watch Run Fatboy Run the night before a race but we watched that last Friday night and I'm in need of some new inspiring running films. I hope it will get me pumped. The theme popping up on my iPod usually does!
Are there any inspiring films about women runners? Perhaps I should write one :)
Hope you are having a happy week so far!
just a silly thought comment, i find a good running inspiring music video for me is i'm a cuckoo by belle and sebastian :) lots of running there!
ReplyDeleteI'll check it out! :)
DeleteInspiring running films featuring women? I've yet to see one sadly :( How about NOT 'Fast Girls' :P Never, ever watch that film - I want those hours of my life back.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the race! I was meant to do the Robin Hood Marathon before they cancelled it due to changes in the course I think?
xxx
"Fast Girls"?! I can see why you'd think that was about running ;)
DeleteI hope you enjoy it- learning from last time is so important, so hopefully the things that didn't go so well last time will mean that this weekend will be brilliant.
ReplyDeleteIs there a film about the women who first ran the Boston marathon- was it Katherine Swizer or something? She has an inspiring story anyway. But the more I think of it, the more I realise that all the running films I have watched have been mainly about men.
Anyway, enjoy, I am sure the scenery will be wonderful.
Yes, Kathrine Switzer! One of my heroes!! She has written a memoir "Marathon Woman", which would make a wonderful inspiring film.
DeleteI'm sure your gonna rock! Gutted I didn't go to the Nakd launch it would have been fab to meet you x x
ReplyDeleteI'm gutted too! Wish you'd been there :) Next time!
DeleteDear Phil,
ReplyDeleteLove love love your blog. First time commenter and fellow Hobartian here! I don't know any films about women runners but try Without Limits - a film from about 1999 about the late great US runner Steve Prefontaine. It stars Billy Crudup as Steve Prefontaine and Donald Sutherland as his coach (and NIKE founder) Bill Bowerman. It is great stuff!
I was very inspired by your last post about the half marathon. I am this very point in time trying to get my arse into running again. To cut a long story short, I used to be be quite slim and very sporty - a total sports junkie and lightweight rower training 12 sessions per week. 8 years later and having hit my mid 30's as well as juggling 3 jobs and 1 baby, I need to drop around 20kg and am incredibly unmotivated, unfit, tired from all the juggling and sick of my own excuses. I'm actually quite disgusted with myself! It's not a lot of fun. Let's just say I don't look in the mirror much these days! ugghh! Thank goodness I have come across your blog is all I can say.
All the best for your next race! I am very impressed at your doing a half marathon uphill. I did the Point to Pinnacle in Hobart 10 years ago and that gave me a VERY healthy respect for people who do long distance running - especially uphill!
PS. What about Rocky? Cheesy but you never know..!
Hi Stella, and welcome! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I know how tough it is to want to change but not have the faintest idea where to start. The important thing IS to start though, to begin somewhere. And eventually one week will turn into a month and a month will turn into a year and you'll be so far from where you used to be. The trick is for your desire to change to become stronger than your excuses. It sounds like you're getting there! I know you can do it! :)
DeleteI think Point to Pinnacle might be a bit beyond me after Saturday! But never say never! I'm loving all these recommendations for films too, I think my husband will be quite pleased at the Rocky recommendation. He's always trying to get me to watch more gritty less "girly" films!
Hope to hear from you again :)
Do I spy two new Nakd flavours? Yum! :) They both sound good, shall keep a close eye out for them as I just love their bars, especially the Cocoa Mint one.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for this weekend, I'm sure once you get going you'll rock it. I'm impressed & amazed at you doing the three races back to back, after I did my half a few weeks ago, I couldn't entertain the thought of running for almost a week afterwards & now I can only stomach 40 mins, if that ;) Also, Chariots is such an inspiring film, I absolutely love it not just for the running sequences (especially the iconic opening segment) but also for the social history it depicts.
On a different note, I have to let you know that I'm currenly suffering with a cold & have made a batch of your Spinach, Orzo & Lemon soup. It's a complete miracle worker :) Possibly one of the best cure-all soups ever.
They were both amazing! Rhubarb & Custard and Caffe Mocha. The latter tasted a bit like brownies ;)
DeleteI'm feeling a bit more confident about Sunday after tonight's 11k in the rain!
Looking forward to Chariots. And get well soon! Glad to hear my cure-all soup has found another fan, isn't it the best? x
Good luck for Saturday! I hope it goes really well, I'm sure it will.
ReplyDeleteOK, this is just a suggestion but you COULD watch Touching the Void ... no running, but the thought of Joe Simpson crawling 6 miles back to base camp with a broken leg and no water or food, sometimes inspires me during long runs (if that doesn't sound too twisted!!)
Sounds more like a Tom film than a Phil film ;)
DeleteAll the best Phil with the next race. You always have so many interesting products to review. Will have to hit the health store here and see if this product is carried in Canada. Go Phil Go!!!
ReplyDeleteI often have food envy of all the cool things in Canada. Foodies paradise! :)
